SBI Mobile Banking

State Bank of India 's Mobile Banking is an wonderful product. It's really so much advanced and powerful, which no other bank has provided so far with so many features.. (including private and foreign banks like ICICI, HSBC, Standard Chartered, etc...)

Basically, its free for all account holders. You can get it on your own, if you have a basic account with an ATM card. No need to visit branch for this!! (This is the best feature, I guess!)

What can you do with SBI Mobile Banking ?

  • Transfer money from your SBI a/c to any other bank's a/c (you need account number and the NEFT code of the bank/branch of the other account to which you want to transfer the amount)
  • Transfer money from your SBI a/c to any other SBI a/c (you just need the account number to which you want to transfer the money).
  • Do mobile Topup/Recharge
  • Do Bill payments
  • Do Merchant payments
  • Raise cheque book request, etc....

Here is how to activate it. (Believe me, its very simple procedure)

PART 1
  • First get the java j2me app from here. Install the app into your phone.
  • Now open the app select options and select register.
  • You will receive a message with user name and password.
  • Now use that user name and password to login into your mobile banking application.
  • You will be asked to change your password on your first login.
PART 2
  • Go to any of the nearest SBI ATMs.
  • Put your card and select Services -> Mobile banking registration. (might be slightly different for different versions of sbi ATMs)
  • Give in your phone number and then your ATM pin number and say register.
  • You phone number and SBI account information should have been linked by now.
Now you are ready to use your SBI Mobile banking app!!

Safety Precautions
  • The communication between the mobile and SBI servers take place in a very safe and secure encrypted manner.
  • But, you have to keep your login id and password of SBI Mobile banking very very safely.
  • If you attempt to login using wrong password for 3 times consecutively, the app on your phone will be reset!
  • Max you can transfer Rs. 50,000 per day.
Note:
  • Every time you select any functionality, a text message will be sent to the server, which might cost you like Rs. 2 or Rs. 3...
  • To avoid this sms cost select settings -> channel -> GPRS.
  • Now you have switched from sms mode to GPRS mode.
  • This way all the communication from your mobile to sbi servers happens through GPRS and you can save on the sms cost.
